ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee sent social media ablaze on Thursday morning, firing a series of Tweets directed at Denice Zamboanga.
This comes a day after the 23-year-old Filipina went on record to say that Lee should vacate the belt, as she will be unable defend it since she is carrying a child.
“Sorry girl but you didn’t do anything to deserve my belt. No one took it from me, so why would I give it up?” read the 24-year-old Singaporean’s tweet.
“Let’s see you win the Atomweight Grand Prix Belt and then maybe you can start calling some shots.”
Lee is the only atomweight champion ever in ONE Championship.
After dominating her first five pro fights, Lee would defeat Mei Yamaguchi, emerging as the inaugural atomweight champion back on May 6, 2016.
She then blazed past Jenny Huang, Istela Nunes, and Yamaguchi again, before trying to become a two-division world champion.
Lee later suffered two straight setbacks in the strawweight division before snapping her skid by stopping Xiong Jingnan in an atomweight championship tilt last October 13, 2019.
“I’m the very first female champion for ONE and I’ve been champion since 2016. I’m not about to give this up,” another Tweet of Lee’s read.
“As for Denice, I know she’s a great up and coming fighter but sorry girl you don’t get a free belt, just like that. You gotta earn it.”
Zamboanga is the top contender in the stacked atomweight division.
“She should not resist vacating the championship belt since she cannot defend it,” said Zamboanga.
Lee, on the other hand, vowed that she will be back.
“I will be back in 2021.”
