Reigning MVP Angel Canino wore an arm sling on her right arm during De La Salle University’s game against the University of the Philippines on Thursday.
During the warm-up period before the match, the sophomore outside spiker was seen on the sidelines, although she was in uniform.
Then, in a report early in the first set, La Salle correspondent Patrice Dabao shared that there is no timetable for the ace spiker’s return.
Dabao also divulged that Canino suffered the injury due to a freak “accident not related to volleyball.”
The Lady Spikers will miss the 16.25 points per game production of the league’s second-ever rookie MVP.
She also ranked sixth in spiking with a 37.46 success rate and ninth in blocking with 0.43 per set before the Holy Week break.
Jyne Soreño took Canino’s place in the starting lineup against the Fighting Maroons.
Heading into the UP game, La Salle holds a 7-1 record.
The Lady Spikers still have the University of the East, National University, Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, and the University of Santo Tomas in their schedule for the second round.
