To Blatche or not to Blatche?
“He remains committed,” Gilas Pilipinas head coach affirmed, Sunday evening after the 24-man pool for Gilas Pilipinas 5.0 was set.
Currently playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association, the 30-year-old naturalized Filipino has made it known that he still wants to represent the Three Stars and the Sun. This schedule, however, is hindering the two parties from advancing in their re-negotiations, says Reyes.
“The only issue with Andray is the schedule he has in China,” the National Team mentor disclosed. “Hopefully, the SEABA and other tournaments are not in conflict with it.”
However, the SBP is still looking at other options as well for the naturalized player position. Gilas assistant coach Josh Reyes is already in Toronto, Canada, to scout for talent in the 2017 NBA D-League Showcase, while fellow assistant coach Jong Uichico will join him tomorrow.
And with the looks of it, Gilas Pilipinas will also tap a young foreign player to naturalize.
