Amid COVID-19, Team Lakay puts training on hold

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grip the Philippines, Team Lakay has suspended operations in both its central gym and training center for the time being.

The team trained up until last week, as there were still no confirmed cases of the virus in Baguio and La Trinidad. But with several people now under investigation in Baguio, head coach Mark Sangiao decided to halt operations.

“Each of us has our own fight and has our own corner to battle for, but this time, Team Lakay is one with combating COVID-19. This is a Herculean match that we can never prevail from without our gross cooperation and discipline,” Sangiao said.

“Our Team Lakay warriors, nonetheless, will train in closed doors as our pursuit to hold our flag high in combat is constantly calling.”

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang has been sharing tips from his Facebook page on how he stays fit from home.

“Let’s do more with less,” Folayang said as he worked on his footwork on an old tire.

“Training in isolation is no problem as long as we progress.”

For now, Sangiao wishes everyone the best in these trying times and reminds people to not only take care of themselves but also take care of others.

“Take care, be concerned. Protect your family, your neighbors, your community, your people, the strangers,” Sangiao said.

“Every now and then, ask for his divine mercy and intervention. Pray for our valiant health professionals, for peace and order, the public safety force for our government.”
