The AMA Online Education Titans finally found the player that could turn their fortunes around
AMA Online Education, a franchise that has never made the semifinals in the PBA D-League, are hoping that Jeron Teng gives the franchise its first semifinals berth at the very least.
Last season, with a core composed of Julian Sargent, Rashawn McCarthy, and Ryan Arambulo that Titans’ 2016 campaign was forgettable, compiling a 6-14 slate. Looking to infuse the team with a go-to-guy, AMA selected Jeron Teng, the UAAP Season 79 Men’s Basketball Finals MVP, as the top overall pick.
According to head coach Mark Herrera, Teng is a player that can alter a franchise overnight.
“Actually si Jeron Teng, pag pumasok sa team yan may improvement yung team. Kailangan ng team namin yan ngayon kasi bata pa kami. Ngayon, wala kaming foreigner so sa kanya kami nag-buibuild,” he said.
“Napakalaking morale boost ito sa amin.”
With a team that only retained Ryan Arambulo and Jay-R Taganas, the Titans selected promising big man Jeepy Faundo, and scorers Embons Bonleon and Renz Palma to complement Teng.
“Nakita ko na sila maglaro. Yung intensity nila ay malaking tulong sa amin especially sa offense at defense,” he added.
With the pieces he drafted, Herrera is positive that they can make a deep run this season.
“Every conference pumapasok kami sa quarterfinals,” he shared.
“Sana this time around sa semis or hopefully sa championship.”
