Allen Liwag admits EAC does not have the same ‘heart’ as it had last season

Allen Liwag was not his usual self in Emilio Aguinaldo College’s match against San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Friday.

Liwag had an underwhelming performance as he only finished with two points and seven rebounds in 24-minutes of action which is far off his usual 12.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game production this season.

“Nawala lang ako sa mindset ko para sa game namin and masyado kong hinahanap yung sarili ko para makabalik sa game, hindi ko na nagawa yung role ko para sa team namin,” said Liwag who went 0-for-7 from the field with seven rebounds in their 78-61 loss against the Stags.

Coming into the game, Liwag was the leading scorer for EAC that’s why his performance was a huge blow for them.

The former Gilas pool member also shared his assessment of why the team is struggling in the first half of the season after putting up a decent performance during their preseason games and a play-in finish last season.

“Siguro yung puso lang sa paglalaro, yung sinasabi ni coach. Saka yung pagsasarado ng game, di namin lagi makuha e. Lagi kami buminigay. Siguro yun lang yung kailangan namin i-workout,” said the 20-year-old big man.

Despite the woes they are experiencing, Liwag vowed that he will stay with the school through thick or thin.

“Never naman mangyayari yon kasi gusto ko yung school kung nasan ako ngayon and gusto kong tulungan yung school,” said the EAC sophomore.

“Yun lang yung gusto kong mangyari. Wala akong iniisip na kahit anong bagay para sa sarili ko. Gusto ko lang makatulong.”
