Emilio Aguinaldo College cruised past San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 96-64, to climb to third in Group B of the NCAA Season 102 Seniors Basketball Tournament on Tuesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The Generals improved to a 4-6 record, temporarily moving away from a potential play-in game as they continued their push for a spot in the next round.
EAC wasted no time establishing control, taking a 26-17 lead after the opening quarter and sustaining its advantage throughout the contest for a wire-to-wire victory.
The Generals will look to build on their momentum when they face University of Perpetual Help System DALTA on Friday at the San Andres Sports Complex.
MJ Raymundo credited the team’s defensive effort and adherence to head coach Jerson Cabiltes’ game plan for the convincing win.
“Nag-isip lang kami sa plan ni coach (Jerson Cabiltes), dumepensa lang kami nang maayos at kailangan lang naming mabawasan ‘yong three points ng kalaban,” said Raymundo. “Nagawa naman namin ‘yon, dumepensa kami nang maayos at do’n lang kami pumuntos, sa depensa.”
Raymundo led the Generals with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Joseph Nunag added 16 points, while EJ Castillo and Jude Bagay chipped in 13 and 10 markers, respectively.
Kent Bacani paced the Golden Stags with 22 points, but his efforts went unrewarded as San Sebastian remained winless after 11 games in the tournament.
Arwin Alforque and Nurben Muktimar contributed 10 points apiece for the Golden Stags, who extended their losing streak to 15 games overall.
San Sebastian will attempt to get back on track when it faces Arellano University on November 3 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
