Alex Desoyo, Mario Bonleon step up in OT as Valencia-San Sebastian advances to semis


The Valencia City, Bukidnon-San Sebastian Golden Harvest withstood the Che’lu Bar and Grill Revellers in overtime, 93-87, to march into the 2019 PBA D-League semifinals, Monday at Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City.

Mario Bonleon sank the go-ahead floater with 38.6 seconds left to play, while Jessie Sumoda and Allyn Bulanadi sank their freebies afterward to save the Golden Harvest, who lost hold of a 14-point lead they built at the half.

“Yung team ko preparing for the NCAA, hindi pa ito beterano. But ang maganda, they gave their best to win it and pumasok sa semifinals,” said coach Egay Macaraya.

JM Calma led Valencia-San Sebastian with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Allyn Bulanadi had 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Meanwhile, Alex Desoyo made 15 as well, as he stepped up for RK Ilagan, who got fouled out late in regulation. Ilagan left with 11 points.

Bonleon chimed in 10 markers, three rebounds, and three assists in the win.

Valencia-San Sebastian have forged a semis showdown with Cignal-Ateneo.

Rey Suerte tallied 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Che’lu, who even held a one-point lead briefly, 62-61, approaching the midway mark of the fourth quarter.

Gab Dagangon had 16 points and six rebounds, while Alfred Batino chimed in 12 markers and nine boards.
