Alaska will bring back a familiar face to lift them in the final stretch of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Aces have tapped Diamon Simpson to replace Chris Daniels, according to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation.
The 31-year-old arrived last Monday. He will suit up for the Aces on Sunday when they take on Ginebra at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
This is Simpson’s third tour of duty for Alaska. He first led the squad to the Fiesta Conference crown nine years ago. He then returned in last year’s edition of the Commissioner’s Cup, leading the Aces to the semifinals before bowing out against San Miguel, 1-3.
This is Alaska’s third import change for the conference.
Daniels played in Alaska’s first six games, averaging 20.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks for a 4-2 slate.
The 35-year-old was then replaced by Nino Johnson. Unfortunately, Johnson bombed in his sole game for Alaska, finishing with just six points, four rebounds, and four assists against Phoenix last June 16.
Daniels returned to Alaska last June 22, tallying 23 points and 22 rebounds in a losing effort against San Miguel.
Alaska currently sit with a 4-4 record.
