Al Llamas, Chris Hoffman falter in Kurash bouts

A judoka and a mixed martial artist failed to shine for the Philippines in Kurash in the 18th Asian Games on Tuesday.

Two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player in Judo Al Llamas, son of national coach Rolando Llamas, won his first bout in the combat sport that is widely played in Central Asia.

With a 10-0 win over Batsuuri Adiay of Mongolia in the preliminaries of their men’s -66 kgs bout, Llamas advanced to the round of 16 against Maruf Gaybulloev of Uszbekistan.

Against Murev, Llamas lasted only 33 seconds on a 100-0 loss via halal.

URCC two-division champion Chris Hoffman bowed to the highly skilled Kuralov Tirek of Kyrgistan, 101-0, in the men’s +92 kgs preliminary.

Also losing right in her first outing was Helen Dawa, who yielded to Jadav Malapbraha Yallapp of India via a 3-0 tally in the women’s -52 kgs. Grace Loberanes also found the exit with a 10-0 defeat to Indonesian Susanti RTK.
