After last UE game, Philip Manalang heads to Bulacan, joins Basilan

Right after University of the East’s final game in UAAP Season 82, Philip Manalang made a mad dash.

Coming from SM Mall of Asia Arena, the 5-foot-8 floor general will immediately head to Bulacan Capitol Gym as he will play for Basilan Steel.

“Oo. Laro na ako mamaya para sa Basilan. Diretso ako Bulacan. Kelangan ko na mag-report eh,” said the 22-year-old, who had five points, seven assists, and four rebounds in UE’s 79-77 win over National University.

Though fighting tired legs, Manalang can’t wait to don a new red uniform in Basilan — a team that is trying to redefine the war-torn town through sports.

“One-hundred percent nilaro ko rito, pero may time pa sa biyahe para pahinga. Pagdating dun, pukpok na ulit,” he said.

Manalang spent five years in University of the East, not making it to the Final Four in all of them.

And he hopes that he could experience at least a post-season in the MPBL.

“‘Yung di ko na-achieve dito, Final Four, championship, sana dun ko siguro makuha.”

Manalang and Basilan will face the QC Capitols at 6:30 pm.
