AFF: Singapore, Malaysia fight out goalless draw to open Women’s Championship

The Lionesses of Singapore and the Tigers of Malaysia commenced their 2022 AFF Women’s Championship campaign with a goalless stalemate, Monday evening, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Both nations were left to lament their inability to convert their chances as the Malaysians had one last sniff at goal in stoppage time, only for it to go painfully wide.

The result means that the two sides earn a point each in Group A however Malaysia sits in 3rd place and Singapore at 4th because the latter’s Venetia Lim was given a yellow card in the first half.

Give credit to Malaysia,” said Singapore coach Stephen Ng. “They gave us a good game. I think it’s a game where we know we can get a result. We worked very hard in this game.”

“You can see from the game (that) we created chances. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the goals that would give us the result that we need.
