AFF: Sandro Reyes goal not enough as Azkals U19 fall to Vietnam

The Philippine Under-19 Men’s National Football Team suffered its second defeat in the 2022 AFF U-19 Youth Championship in a 4-1 loss to Vietnam, Monday evening, at the GBK Madya Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Nguyen Quoc Viet scored at the 4th and 48th minutes to give Vietnam a two-goal cushion over coach Christopher Pedimonte’s boys.

Sandro Reyes was able to pull one back for the Filipinos at the 53rd minute but that was as good as it got for the Philippines.

The Vietnamese converted two spot-kicks as Khuat Van Khang and Nguyen Van Truong scored a penalty each at the 68th and 78th minutes at the expense of goalkeeper Lance Bencio.

The result means the Filipinos are yet to tally a point in Group A while Vietnam has 4 points on the back of one win and one draw.

Both teams will return on Wednesday. The Philippines takes on Myanmar at 4:00 PM, while Vietnam goes up against Brunei at 6:00 PM.

Philippines XI: Bencio (GK), Taningco, Galsim, Carino, Amirul, Aldeguer, Reyes, Rosquillo ©, Ortega, Frias, Saut.

Vietnam XI: Cao Van Binh (GK), Trinh Hoang Canh, Vu Van Son, Nguyen Van Tu, Nguyen Quoc Viet, Khuat Van Khang ©, Nguyen Bao Long, Nguyen Minh Trong, Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Hong Phuc.
