AFF: First half show propels Vietnam past Cambodia to open Group B run


Defending championc Vietnam commenced its 2022 AFF Women’s Championship campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over Cambodia, Thursday night, at the Binan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Mai Duc Chung’s side raced to a three-goal cushion by the end of the first half, enough for the Vietnamese to take all three points.

Midfielder Ngân Thị Vạn Sự opened the scoring in the 19th minute while captain Phạm Hải Yến doubled Vietnam’s lead with a penalty when she shot past Cambodian goalkeeper Chea Sompors in the 32nd minute.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha then scored Vietnam’s final goal in the 45+2 minute of the first half.

The result means that Vietnam opens its Group B run with three points while Cambodia still has one point behind one draw and one loss.

Both teams return to action on Saturday in the same venue. Cambodia goes up against Myanmar at 4:00 PM while Vietnam takes on Laos after at 7:00 PM.
