AFF: Filipinas U18 dealt four-goal rout by Australia to open campaign

The Philippine Under-18 Women’s National Football Team commenced its 2022 AFF U-18 Women’s Championship in dismal fashion after succumbing 4-0 to Australia’s Junior Matildas, Monday evening, at the Jakabaring Athletic Field in Indonesia.

Coach Let Dimzon’s girls kept things close in the first half as forward Avaani Prakash’s 26th-minute strike separated both teams come halftime.

Unfortunately for the young Filipinas, though, the Junior Matildas broke the floodgates in the second period. India Beier doubled Australia’s cushion in the 58th minute. Then Prakash secured her brace in the 60th minute.

Substitute midfielder Maya Lobo then shot past Filipinas goalie Alexis Louise Tan to provide the Aussies’ fourth goal of the contest in the 69th minute.

The result means that the Junior Matildas climb to the top of Group B with 3 points.

The young Filipinas hope to bounce back when they take on Myanmar this Wednesday at the same venue. Kickoff time is scheduled at 4:30 PM.

Australia XI: Wilson (GK), Massih, Bertolissio, Beier, Hollman ©, Karipdis, Morris, Prakash, Saveska, Trimis, Stanic-Floody.

Philippines XI: Tan (GK), Yap, Lubiano, Tolentino, Maniti ©, Alforque, Flanigan, Lucban, Beatrice, Perez, Alamo.
