AFF: Azkals U19 fall to five-star Indonesia to bow out of contention

The Philippine Under-19 Men’s National Football Team experienced another rough defeat in the 2022 AFF U-19 Youth Championship in a 5-1 loss to Indonesia, Friday evening, at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in West Java, Indonesia.

Coach Christopher Pedimonte’s boys saw themselves suffer a two-goal deficit when Indonesia’s Rabbani Tasnim converted a penalty in the 14th minute and Nico Saputro scored past goalie Lance Bencio in the 27th minute.

Justin Chan Frias was able to pull one back for the Filipinos in the 29th minute but that was as good as it got for them. Tasnim scored another spot-kick in the 40th minute and completed his hattrick in the 50th minute.

Razzaa Aziz then completed the rout in the 70th minute.

The result extends the Philippines’ losing streak in the tournament to four matches. On the other hand, Indonesia increases its standing in Group A to 8 points behind two wins and two draws.

Both teams end their group stage assignments on Sunday. The Philippines takes on Brunei at 6:00 PM while Indonesia goes up against Myanmar at 9:00 PM.

Philippines XI: Bencio (GK), Taningco, Galsim, Carino, Amirul, Aldeguer, Do, Rosquillo ©, Ortega, Frias, Dalapo.

Indonesia XI: Supriadi (GK), Priyatna, Ferrari ©, Al Hudaifi, Surya, Fariz, Fajri, Saputro, Putra, Amping, Saddiq.
