SINGAPORE — Lito Adiwang could not contain Japanese upstart Hiroshi Minowa, suffering a split decision loss during ONE: Inside The Matrix, Friday evening at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Adiwang entered the bout as the fifth-ranked strawweight in ONE Championship. And he started the bout as he did against Pongsiri Mitsatit last January 31.
Active on the ground, the native of Baguio City had the former Shooto champion in dire straits. He sank a tight kimura early, before ending the round with an armbar attempt. Both times Minowa survived.
The second and third rounds then saw utter domination from the Japanese grappler.
Minowa was able to take down Adiwang with ease, moving in and out of the Filipino’s guard.
Minowa ended the second round raining knees on Adiwang’s head on the north-south position. He then poured in punches to close out the bout while inside Adiwang’s guard.
A disappointed Adiwang — who risked being away from his ailing mom Leticia for this contest — dropped to 11-3. This was his first loss since November of 2014 (a split decision loss vs Aden Baron).
Minowa extended his streak to five fights, going up to 12-2.
