Adidas Basketball has unveiled the Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas,” a Philippines-exclusive edition of Anthony Edwards’ signature basketball shoe inspired by the passion and energy of the country’s basketball culture.
In the Philippines, basketball isn’t just a sport—it’s a way of life. From barangay courts to packed community leagues, it’s where style, skill, and pride come together. The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” embodies that spirit: show up, stand out, and bring your community with you.
As the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas, adidas continues to champion Philippine basketball through products and storytelling that authentically reflect the country’s basketball culture.
Design Rooted in Bayanihan
The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” is a bold expression of Filipino pride and collective strength, brought to life through intricate design details by Filipino designer Melvin Rodas.
A dynamic gradient of blue hues flows across the upper, transitioning from light to deep tones to symbolize bayanihan—the collective effort of a community moving forward together from day to night. The seamless gradation extends across both shoes, reinforcing a unified narrative of consistency, connection, and purpose.
Contrasting the deep blues is a vibrant, cool red sockliner, a modern interpretation of the red in the Philippine flag. It creates a striking visual when worn while grounding the design in national identity. Lime yellow accents, featured in the stitching across the tongue and upper, reinterpret the sun’s rays in a contemporary, high-energy tone, adding brightness and movement to the silhouette.
The shoe’s hyperlocal storytelling continues through subtle yet meaningful details. The inner tongues feature split messaging: “Magpakitang Gilas” on the left shoe and “Shine for the Squad” on the right, reinforcing both local pride and a global mindset. Meanwhile, the lace tips are adorned with the words “Pilipinas” and “Basketball,” offering a playful nod to the game’s deep roots in the country.
Elevating the craftsmanship is a custom debossed three-stripe weave pattern across the upper, blending Filipino-inspired textures with adidas’ iconic design language. The signature three stripes become more than a branding element—they serve as a storytelling device that fuses heritage with innovation.
Built for the Way the Game Is Played
On the performance side, the Anthony Edwards 2 remains true to the signature line, featuring:
- Lightstrike midsole for speed and responsiveness
- Boost cushioning for impact protection and comfort
- A secure fit for control during quick cuts and explosive moves
It’s built for the way basketball is played in the Philippines—fast, instinctive, and expressive.
A Story Shared by Many
“Being able to work with adidas for this goes beyond designing a shoe—it’s about what it means to tell everyone’s story,” said Rodas.
“I wanted the design to reflect what basketball means to Filipinos: pride, teamwork, and bayanihan. The idea was to create something built by many and worn with pride—and something that carries the spirit of the Philippines in every detail.”
Developed through adidas Philippines’ partnership with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the release further reinforces the brand’s commitment to growing the game locally. The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” continues adidas Basketball’s mission of spotlighting local culture through its products, giving Filipino hoopers a shoe that feels at home both on and off the court.
The Anthony Edwards 2 “Magpakitang Gilas” is now available for ₱8,000 at adidas.com.ph and select adidas stores.
