Adamson University boosted its Final Four bid with a 25-19, 17-25, 27-25, 25-17 conquest of Far Eastern University-Diliman Saturday in the UAAP Season 82 Girls’ Volleyball Tournament at the Paco Arena.
In the other matches, University of Santo Tomas survived defending champion De La Salle-Zobel, 25-16, 12-25, 22-25, 25-17, 19-17, while National University-Nazareth School smothered University of the East to stay immaculate, 25-20, 25-16, 25-13.
Kate Santiago registered 13 kills, while Ckyle Tagsip got 11 markers off nine attacks and two kills as the Baby Falcons moved to solo third place with a 6-4 card.
“Unti-unti, nagmamature na yung team namin. Yun ang sinabi ko sa kanila, they need to decide if they want to win, decide every movement, every action kung gusto nila manalo,” said Adamson University coach Lerma Giron.
Joann De Guzman’s 12 points, 14 digs and 10 excellent receptions went for naught as the Baby Tamaraws dropped to fourth place with a 5-5 slate.
Trailing 16-17 in the deciding set, the Junior Tigresses netted three straight points from a Junior Lady Spikers error, a Renee Peñafiel off the block kill and a Jullana Carreon’s service ace, to seal their ninth win in 11 games.
“Masyado kaming cautious sa galaw namin nung umpisa kaya hindi kami nakakakuha ng bola. Dumadating naman talaga yung bad game pero ang maganda ay naovercome naman namin,” UST assistant coach Yani Fernandez said.
Regina Jurado came through with 20 points on 18 spikes, Peñafiel chalked up 15 markers while Carreon tallied 10 points, 13 digs and 13 receptions for the Junior Tigresses.
De La Salle-Zobel slid to 4-6, as it now trails FEU by a full game in the race for the last semifinals berth.
Angel Canino had 19 points while Irah Jaboneta delivered 18 markers and 20 digs for the Junior Lady Spikers.
Evangeline Alinsug unloaded eight service aces to finish with 16 points while Alyssa Solomon chipped in 10 markers as the Bullpups remained unscathed in 10 games.
