Bryan Bagunas has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference semifinals after his club in Taiwan reached the finals of the Top Volleyball League, according to Imus-Ivy Tuason Photography head coach Sammy Acaylar, who confirmed the development.
The finals series between Bagunas’ Win Streak and Pingtung Taipower will begin on March 26, Sunday, while Game Two will be held the following day.
On the other hand, the AJAA Spikers already started their round-robin semifinals campaign in the Spikers’ Turf last Wednesday, where they lost to the top-ranked Cignal in straight sets, leaving them in a must-win situation against AMC-Cotabato later in the day.
“Tiningnan ko kasi yung schedule e. Ang plano kasi na papuntahin siya is 27 kasi may championship pa siya sa Taiwan. I don’t know if makahabol pa siya [sa semis],” Acaylar said.
However, all is not lost, as Bagunas can still suit up for Imus if they make it to the finals. The AJAA Spikers (0-1) must defeat the Cotabato Spikers (0-1) as quickly as possible later at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum to stay alive in the finals race. Imus then needs to take care of Iloilo and hope that Cignal sweeps the semis to secure a spot in the top two.
“Pero in case na makapasok kami sa championship, habol siya doon. Pero sa semifinals 50-50.”
