There is no denying that Aby Maraño is nearly unstoppable once she channels all of her fervor into a match.
The F2 Logistics skipper has built a reputation as one of the fiercest competitors on the Taraflex. And she was her usual beast self for the Cargo Movers on Tuesday.
Holding a twice-to-beat advantage against the upset-seeking Foton squad, the 26-year-old only had one thing in mind.
“Gusto ko talagang manalo. Ayoko na mag-Game Two.”
The seven-time PSL Best Blocker knows how dangerous of an opponent the Tornadoes are, especially with the highly-spirited Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat at the forefront.
Given the circumstances — from their win-once incentive, to the sheer will of the Tornadoes to pull off a stunner against them — Maraño buckled down to business.
The 5-foot-9 middle blocker flaunted her two-way arsenal. She hammered down nine attacks and anchored above the net with three of her team’s 11 blocks en route to 13 points. On top of all that, she dug up whatever came her way whenever she rotated to the back row.
In all, Maraño rubbed off her intensity to the rest of her sisters-in-arms, paving the way for their return trip to the PSL Finals.
“Kahit papaano, ‘di man ako effective sa blockings, pagdating sa likod… Kung ano yung maco-contribute ko sa putohan, sa depensa sa coverage, bigay ko talaga,” she bared.
“Kasi gusto ko rin ma-instill sa teammates ko na kahit anong mangyari, walang papayag na makuha ‘yung game na ‘to sa amin.”
