Alaska Aces forward Calvin Abueva suffered a busted lip during Gilas Pilipinas’ practice session on Monday night at the Kerry’s Sports Arena in Shangri-La at The Fort, Taguig City.
What was initially thought to be a dislodged tooth just turned out to be a bloody hit to the 28-year-old Alaska Aces star’s right upper lip, team manager Butch Antonio confirmed.
“Putok lang sa labi,” said Antonio.
The 6-foot-3 wingman suffered the said injury after a collision with guard Almond Vosotros during Gilas’ team scrimmages, leading to a minutes-long halt of the said session. It happened an hour past the call time of 6:00pm.
According to Antonio, Abueva was then rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City for further treatment.
UPDATE (2017/04/17 20:20):
Calvin Abueva required eight stitches to close the wound on his upper lip. Gilas’ staff shared that Abueva is in good spirits, though, and has already made his way home to San Juan.
