ABL 3×3: Platinum Karaoke dominates pool stage, Uratex bows out

Platinum Karaoke was a class above the rest, sweeping Pool C of the 2022 ASEAN Basketball League 3X3 International Champions Cup, Saturday in Bali, Indonesia.

Flaunting a team that has Philippine no. 19 player Chris De Chavez, former Gilas 3×3 Youth player Juan Gomez de Liano, USA’s no. 11 player Marcus Hammonds, and Spain’s top gun Carlos Martinez, Platinum Karaoke decimated the competition in the level four FIBA 3×3 tournament that has $10,000 going to the top team.

To open their campaign, the Philippine-based club team decimated Indonesia’s Bali United, 21-4, before making minced meat out of Cambodia’s Khmer Star, 21-2.

Platinum Karaoke will await the winner of India’s Ahmedabad 3BL and Vietnam’s Saigon Heat in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 10:25 AM.

Not as fortunate though are women’s team Uratex and Zamboanga Valientes.

Uratex could not make the final cut in Pool A as it finished with a 1-2 slate.

The quartet of Tina Deacon, Eunique Chan, Kaye Pingol, and Sam Harada was off to a flying start, defeating Singapore’s Team Lions, 18-15. However, Uratex suffered a heartbreaker against Vietnam’s Red and Gold, 18-15.

In a win-or-go-home game, Uratex was on the wrong end of a rout, bowing to Louvre Indonesia, 22-14.

The two teams that advanced to the KO rounds were Vietnam and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Valientes went 0-2 in Pool D, losing to the Indonesia Patriots (21-12) and Thailand’s SniperX (21-8).

The quartet of Jojo Cunanan, RJ Argamino, David Sebastian, and Jeff Bernardo will have one last shot at advancing to the quarterfinals tomorrow when they face Bali United tomorrow at 8:25 AM. Awaiting the winner of the game is Vietnam’s Red and Gold, who topped Pool A.
