One of the Premier Volleyball League’s most charismatic guest players will be sitting out as she battles cancer.
It was revealed last Wednesday that former BaliPure and Petro Gazz import Janisa Johnson has been diagnosed with colon cancer.
Johnson is currently in Poland as she played for Radomka in the Tauron League. She is just 29 years old.
“Because of a serious health issue, I am no longer allowed to play the rest of the season. I would love to be on the court of course but because of my health concerns, I have to do everything to get healthy so that I am able to get back on the court next season,” Johnson said in a video posted by her team on Twitter.
Johnson, a product of California State University, made her PVL debut in 2018 when she reinforced the young BaliPure-NU Water Defenders.
A year later, she joined Wilma Salas in Petro Gazz. The two carried the Angels to their first-ever championship in the PVL with Johnson winning Finals MVP honors.
Johnson is looking to conquer this ordeal as she undergoes chemotherapy and radiotherapy for the next few months.
“Of course, it’s been amazing to have such an amazing crowd and loving teammates to help me get through the situation,” she said.
