BanKo-Perlas sweeps Tacloban to start quarterfinals

The BanKo Perlas Spikers made short work of the Chooks-to-Go-backed Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18, to begin the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference quarterfinals at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

BanKo took quick early leads each set and never looked back. Tacloban tried to rally in the first set, forcing a 20-all tie. But the Perlas Spikers then leaned on their imports Kia Bright and Jutarat Montripilia, who took turns scoring BanKo’s last five points.

From there, BanKo dominated the next two sets, taking double-digit leads.

“Siguro atat na rin ang mga players ko na bumawi, and umpisa na ito ng quarterfinal round so magandang start,” said BanKo head coach Dong Dela Cruz “Kailangan namin pagpahalagahan bawat game. This time, confident naman na kami sa kakayahan namin at sa chemistry namin.”

Bright led Perlas with 19 points, while Montripilia added 13. Nicole Tiamzon provided much-needed local support, tallying 10 markers.

Hyapa Amporn towed Tacloban with 12 points. Jovie Prado added nine markers.

BanKo (1-0) face the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors (0-0) on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Tacloban (0-1) take on the Petro Gazz Angels (0-0) on Wednesday.
