Generika-Ayala welcomes Sherwin Meneses back with decisive win over Cocolife


The Generika-Ayala Lifesavers claimed solo third place in the standings after clobbering the Cocolife Asset Managers, 25-15, 25-17, 25-11, in thr 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Bacoor Strike Gym.

Generika barely gave Cocolife room in the wire-to-wire victory, their sixth consecutive. The Lifesavers stifled the Cocolife offense en route to a 46-20 spikes disparity.

Wingers Patty Orendain and Fiolla Ceballos led the Lifesavers with 12 points apiece, while setter April Hingpit tossed 34 excellent sets to go with eight digs.

Head coach Sherwin Meneses returned from an FIVB coaching clinic in Indonesia, just in time to steer his team to their best performance of the season.

“Siyempre, sobrang saya natin, pero ‘yung effort nating laro talaga doon sa quarterfinals pa. Mas maganda na rin ‘yung momentum papasok doon dahil sa nilalaro namin,” Meneses said.

Cocolife lead scorer Kalei Mau was held to nine points. Gyra Barroga managed six.

Generika-Ayala (6-3) could claim the second seed in the knockout quarterfinals with a win against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers (7-2) on Saturday at the Caloocan Sports Complex. Cocolife (1-8) round out their preliminary campaign on Tuesday against the Cignal HD Spikers (4-5).
