Trevis Jackson sparks Gamboa-St. Clare in romp of JRU

The Gamboa-St. Clare Coffee Lovers clobbered the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers in the third quarter to run away with a 93-76 victory, Monday afternoon at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

Filipino-American playmaker Trevis Jackson ignited the rally as he dropped 10 of his 25 points in the Coffee Lovers’ 38-point third period explosion, to take the dominant 72-54 edge.

Chris Bitoon was a perfect running partner for Jackson, dropping eight of his 18 markers in the frame, while also hauling down four rebounds and three assists. Mohammed Pare lorded in the paint with his double-double 17 points and 12 boards.

Gamboa-St. Clare didn’t have much trouble controlling the pace, outrunning the Heavy Bombers with their 28 fastbreak points, and punished its foes for its 23 miscues which led to 23 turnover markers.

This kind of victory is just what coach Jinino Manasala craves, as he hopes that the Coffee Lovers gain the respect of their foes in this foray in the developmental ranks.

“Gusto lang naming magbigay ng statement, na ang Gamboa kayang makuha yung respeto ng mga kalaban naming teams na nasa ibang liga,” he said.

Paolo Pontejos topscored for JRU (1-2) with 16 points from a 4-of-8 three-point shooting, while MJ Dela Virgen got 14 markers in the loss.
