Marinerong Pilipino picks up second straight win, overwhelms Wangs-Letran

The Marinerong Pilipino Skippers notched their first back-to-back victories, trouncing the Wangs Basketball-Letran Knights, 96-84, Thursday evening at Pasig Sports Center.

Renzo Subido and Abu Tratter sparked a decisive 18-2 run bridging the second and third quarters, as the Skippers turn a 40-all deadlock to a 58-42 advantage. The lead ballooned to 23 points several times in the fourth quarter.

Rian Ayonayon led Marinerong Pilipino with 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds; Billy Robles chipped in 12 markers and five boards; and Subido shot 12 points on a 4-of-6 clip from beyond the arc, as the three-guard combo once again showed the way for the Skippers.

Kyle Toth was equally as lethal from downtown, going 4-of-6 from threes to tally 12 markers, while Gab Banal added a double-double with his 10 points and 15 rebounds.

“We’re just happy that everybody came in with laser-focus and executed our game plan well,” said coach Koy Banal. “Everybody knows the game plan, believed in it, and understood it.”

The Skippers rose up the standings with their 3-2 record as they set the pace, and ran the Couriers to the ground with 22 fastbreak points and 23 assists.

Bong Quinto anchored Wangs-Letran with 22 points to drop to 2-2.
