Petron recovers, stuns F2 Logistics in battle of heavyweights

Sisi Rondina powered the Petron Blaze Spikers to a stunning five-set comeback against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, 23-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 15-9, in the 2017 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference, Thursday evening at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The diminutive hitter from the University of Santo Tomas pumped 21 points, 17 from kills, two blocks, and two service aces, to keep the Blaze Spikers on top of Group A with a 1-0 slate.

Frances Molina chipped in 13 markers, while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas got nine.

Mika Reyes also tallied six points in her first match against her former team.

Petron came alive from a 0-2 hole and delivered a better performance in the next three sets, with Rondina and Molina making the biggest differences to secure their opening day win.

“Happy kami first dahil binigay ni Lord ang panalo although slow start ang nilaro namin,” said coach Shaq delos Santos. “Although alam namin ang kakayanan ng mga bata at napakaganda ng experience ang nangyari sa game na ito, kailangan pa din namin mag-practice ng mabuti.”

Majoy Baron and Aby Maraño both wound up with 15 points in the loss.

Petron (1-0) will next face Cignal HD on Saturday, June 10, 7 p.m., while F2 Logistics (0-1) will also brace for Cignal HD on Tuesday, June 13, at 3 p.m.

The Scores:

Petron (3) – Rondina 21, Molina 13, Maizo-Pontillas 9, Basas 8, Meneses 8, Reyes 6, Pons 5, Dimaculangan 3, Palma 2, Hingpit 0, Aganon 0, Pineda (L), Duremdes (L).
