Orlan Wamar sparks young CEU’s triumph over veteran-laden Marinerong Pilipino

Orlan Wamar sparked the Centro Escolar University Scorpions’ fourth straight victory as he caught fire in their 70-57 conquest of the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers, Tuesday evening at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The 18-year-old playmaker went 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, two of which came in the payoff period, as the Scorpions ran away from the Skippers and erected a 19-point advantage, 68-49, midway in the frame.

Wamar came off the bench and corralled 16 points, to go with two rebounds in the win.

“Alam kong lalabas yung laro niya dahil talagang grabe ang work ethic ni Wamar,” said coach Yong Garcia. “May go signal talaga siya mula sa akin para tumira.”

Congolese big man Rod Ebondo imposed his presence in the paint and racked 13 markers, 18 boards, four blocks, and two assists, while Christian Uri chipped in 11 in the triumph.

CEU’s four-game winning run helped them rise to 4-2, keeping themselves in the running in the race for the elusive top two spots. On the other hand, Marinerong Pilipino continued their slide and were dealt their third straight loss to fall to 1-4.

Achie Iñigo pumped 13 points, banking on his 3-of-5 shooting from rainbow country, while also grabbing five rebounds, while Mark Isip added 12 markers and six boards in the losing effort.

CEU hope to make it five in a row when they face the league-leading Flying V Thunder on Tuesday, July 11, at 5:00pm. Marinerong Pilipino look to snap out of their funk when they face the Racal Motors on Thursday, July 13, at 5:00pm.
