Herndon, Wangs romp AMA for fifth win

The Wangs Basketball Couriers used a strong start and even stronger finish to score a 110-85 rout of the AMA Online Education Titans, Tuesday afternoon at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Robbie Herndon commanded the blowout as he scattered 23 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists in the win.

With the Fil-Am swingman leading the parade, the rest of the Couriers followed suit, with all but one of coach Pablo Lucas’ players scoring a field goal in the comfortable victory.

John Ambulodto tallied 12 markers and eight boards; Michael Juico got 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists; and John Montemayor had 12 markers and three boards to help Wangs notch back-to-back victories and improve to 5-3.

“Nag-work hard lang yung mga players sa defense at yun ang nagdala ng panalo sa amin,” said Lucas.

The Couriers superb start allowed them to jump to an early 30-11 lead after the first period. But the Titans would fight back, cutting the deficit to as low as six, 52-46, with 7:46 to play, before Wangs rekindled their fire and started to run away with the game anew, holding a lead as high as 29, 98-69, after a pair of threes from Herndon with 3:47 left to play.

The defeat wasted the 35-point effort from Renzo Subido, who also dished eight assists and two rebounds for AMA.

The Titans further dropped down in the standings with their 1-6 slate.

Wangs will next face the Tanduay Rhum Masters on Tuesday, July 18, at 5:00pm. AMA, on the other hand, takes on the Flying V Thunder on Monday, July 17, at 5:00pm.
