San Sebastian breezes past EAC for second straight win

Incoming NCAA season hosts San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags dismantled fellow NCAA squad Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 79-54, to take their second straight win in Group B of the 2017 FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup, Wednesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Golden Stags rose to a 2-1 win-loss record, while the Generals slipped to 0-2.

Lorenzo Navarro top-billed the Recto-based squad with 11 points and five assists. Mark Sangalang added with 10 markers and nine boards.

The Stags used a huge first quarter to put the game away for good, and limited the Generals to 26% shooting in the first half.

Head coach Egay Macaraya shared that they just capitalized on their edge. He said, “We just used our advantage to contain [Hamadou] Laminou and our defense.”

“I give credit to the boys, they played well. Yung first group and the second group played well, and even the third group were able to contain EAC,” he emphasized.

Stags’ defense in the end limited EAC to just 13 made shots from the field. On the other hand, the former shot a decent 42 percent shooting clip.

Michael Calisaan finished with eight points and 10 rebounds after playing in just the first half.

The Golden Stags will go for their third straight win when they face Mapua Institute of Technology (0-3) on Monday, May 22 at 1:30 pm.

Jerome Garcia led EAC with 14 points. Center Laminou finished with just 10 points and four rebounds.

The Generals will try to arrest the slide as they take on Adamson University (4-0) later that day at 3:15 pm.
