After days of speculation, the 2016 Philippine Superliga Draft concluded with a frantic last-minute scramble.
After the smoke cleared, former UAAP MVP Ara Galang went as the top overall pick to the, sudden first pick owners, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
F2 Logistics was originally going to draft fifth but after a board meeting last night, the draft order was completely changed. Petron moved from the seventh pick to take Arellano University standout CJ Rosario with the second pick.
University of Mindanao setter Renelyn Raterta went third to Amy’s Kitchen – Perpetual, former FEU middle blocker Geneveve Casugod went fourth to Generika, Davao tower Mary Grace Berte returned to Cignal with the fifth pick, former Arellano University spiker Dana Henson also went back to her Invitational team Foton Toplander, Jonah Sabete went to Navy at seventh while original top pick holder RC Cola-Army passed on the last pick of the first round.
Three teams – Petron, Perpetual, and RC Cola – passed on their second round picks. Angelica Legacion was picked 11th overall by Generika, Marlyn Llagoso went 12th to Cignal, while Shirley Salamagos was the last pick to Foton.
“I just feel really blessed that na na-pick ako ng team na gusto ko puntahan,” said Galang who had to tune out rumors of her going to other teams due to her knee injury.
As to the transactions that led to the rearrangement, no specific details were disclosed by the league or team owners.
