ZUS Coffee sweeps Galeries Tower, brews first winning streak in PVL

The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles are brewing a winning streak in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

Fresh off their first franchise victory against Nxled on November 19, the Thunderbelles kept their momentum alive with a straight-sets triumph over the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Thursday.

The win marked ZUS Coffee’s first-ever sweep since joining the league in the 2024 season.

“Excited, syempre. We see them practice, we see them improve. Gusto namin yung growth, gusto namin yung maturity, lalo na yung dala ng mga veterans. Ang laki ng push para sa amin, so hopefully magtuloy-tuloy kami,” said head coach Jerry Yee.

Once a perennial bottom-dweller, ZUS Coffee now finds itself in a five-way tie for fourth place with Petro Gazz, Akari, Chery Tiggo, and Choco Mucho, all holding identical 2-1 records.

The Thunderbelles’ precise execution and disciplined play were pivotal in the one-hour, 23-minute match. They limited their errors to just nine, capitalizing on Galeries Tower’s 21 miscues.

Chinnie Arroyo led the charge off the bench, delivering a team-high 14 points on 11 attacks, two aces, and one block.

Chai Troncoso added 11 points along with eight excellent receptions, while top overall pick Thea Gagate tallied nine markers, including three blocks.

Michelle Gamit and Jovelyn Gonzaga chipped in seven points apiece to round out ZUS Coffee’s balanced attack.

The Thunderbelles will look to extend their streak when they face sister team Farm Fresh on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

Playing with heavy hearts following the passing of their ball boy, Jeric Importante, Galeries Tower honored his memory by wearing white ribbons during the match.

Despite the loss, several Highrisers stepped up.

Roselle Baliton and France Ronquillo paced the team with 12 points each, with Ronquillo also contributing nine excellent receptions and six digs.

Newcomer Jho Maraguinot added 10 points, while libero Alyssa Eroa recorded 11 excellent digs and nine receptions.

Galeries Tower aims to break into the win column when they face Capital1 on December 7 in Cebu.
