Sisters Bambi Zoleta and Noelle Zoleta-Manalac blanked Thailand’s Sawitre Naree and Natchatjira Kerdsomboon in the women’s doubles final, 5-0, en route to a gold medal in soft tennis of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
This is Zoleta-Manalac’s second gold after taking the women’s individual gold on Saturday.
An early break of serve put the Filipinas on top at 1-0, before the Thais threatened in the second game. Nonetheless, after several deuces, the sisters walked away with the game for a 2-0 lead that they never relinquished.
“Ang break away talaga namin eh ‘yung na-2-0 namin,” the elder Bien shared. “Iniisip ko nun ‘pag ‘di namin ‘to nakuha, hindi namin alam. Hindi pa namin sure kung makakalamang kami ng malayo.
“Sabi namin, kunin namin ‘to kahit anong mangyari.”
The other Filipina pair of Princess Catindig and Edrilyn Peralta lost to the silver medalists Thai duo. They took home the bronze.
