Yorme Isko to grace PSSBC opening

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno will be the special guest when the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) Freego Cup launches its eighth edition on Saturday at the SGS gym in Quezon City.

The charismatic mayor is expected to provide the inspiration and motivation to the country’s young dribblers – all of them dreaming to make it big like their idols in the PBA.

“I am sure the youthful exuberance of Mayor Moreno will give our young ballers another reason to dream big and work as hard as they can,” said PSSBC Chairman and Freego big boss Eduard Tio. “And we are greatly honored that the well-loved mayor has accepted our invitation despite his hectic schedule.”

All 12 teams, led by defending champion National University, will take part in the parade of players along with their beautiful muses in the event offering P50,000 to the champion team.

Aside from Tio, other Governors of the Board are Dioceldo Sy of Blackwater Sports, Jimi Lim of IronCon Builders, Jimmy dela Cruz of Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Rudy Yu of Macbeth Underwear, Dr. Cecilio Pedro of Hapee Toothpaste, Leoncio Chua and Terry Que of Poly Gloss-Rain or Shine.

A heavy four-game schedule is on tap on opening day with reigning NCAA champion San Beda University taking on Xavier School in Group D action.

Led by Miguel Tan, Ryan Yu, and Keith Wongchuking, the Xavier Golden Stallions are hoping to perform much better this time.

Also taking part in the event which has also the backing of Gerry’s Grill, Sumo GI Sheet, Cherrylume, Choi Garden and Molten are FCAAF back-to-back champion Hope Christian High School, Chiang Kai Shek College, Far Eastern University, Ateneo, Adamson, La Consolacion College, La Salle Greenhills, Lyceum and former champion San Sebastian College.
