Yeng Guiao on ultimatum: ‘It’s always an option for any coach’

After winning back-to-back games, Rain or Shine is back on track and finds itself in the hunt for one of two outright semis berths.

Bad news for the players, though: head coach Yeng Guiao isn’t happy.

The fiery mentor has given an ultimatum to his players to play better or he will be forced to make some movements.

The team responded with two consecutive wins but that’s not enough to satisfy Guiao.

“Actually we had a win today, but it’s not a really nice win. It’s just our experience that really won the game for us against a less experienced team. We missed a lot of free throws in the endgame and I was not expecting that from Jeff (Chan) and Beau (Belga) who are the veterans and Gilas players. They are well exposed in terms of pressure moments. Hindi yun ang expectations ko,” said Guiao.

Chan missed four free throws while Belga muffed three. All in all, the team missed 12 free throw attempts in 31 tries and that’s a sign of concern for Guiao.

Even the effort wasn’t pleasing for the multi-titled coach.

“We’re inconsistent with the way we’re showing our energy. Kaya nakukulangan pa rin ako. May tendency kasi na yung energy namin ay kulang talaga. That’s the reason why we were clobbered by Talk N Text in the rebounding department.”

“We lost by 31 rebounds to them. We’re not a big team nor the most athletic team, but losing by 31 rebounds is too much. That’s extra 31 possessions for Talk N Text and you can’t afford to give it to a great team like talk N Text,” he added.”
