Rubilen Amit pulled through in her first-ever World Games match, completing a come-from-behind victory against Germany’s Pia Filler, 9-8, in the Round of 16 of the Women’s Pool of the 2022 World Games, Friday morning (Philippine time) at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States.
The 40-year-old Filipino legend took the lead at 2-1, but the German found her rhythm to snag the advantage with two straight won frames at 5-4.
A see-saw battle ensued in the following racks before Filler went to the hill first with two consecutive games once more, 8-6.
Amit made her own shots count and, eventually, forced a winner-take-all 17th rack. She then closed it out on her own terms and wrapped up the match in the decider.
The two-time World 10-ball Champion will look to add a World Games title to her collection.
Amit will take on another German in Veronika Ivanovskaia in the quarterfinal on June 16, still at 9 a.m. (Philippine time) in the same venue.
