It may just be his first day as a member of the San Miguel Beermen, but Christian Standhardinger’s adjustment to the storied ball club won’t be that difficult all thanks to a familiar face.
Von Pessumal, his teammate in Gilas Pilipinas, made the Filipino-German feel at home when he attended his first-ever practice session with the Beermen, Saturday at the Acropolis Gym.
“It’s good to have him here,” said Pessumal, who was seen sharing light moments with Standhardinger during and after practice.
“We’re all looking forward to him being part of the team.”
The two had played side-by-side twice with Gilas last year: in the William Jones Cup and in the SEA Games. And those times they’ve spent together will be benificial for SMB, Pessumal feels.
“I think it will help kasi we’ve known each other for a while na,” said the sophomore sniper. “Maybe I can help him out if he has questions… I think he’ll get along with everybody else.”
Moreover, Pessumal thinks that the intensity and passion he had seen from Standhardinger in Gilas will be his bread-and-butter in the Beermen, who are seeking a rare Grand Slam feat.
“Yun yung nag-stick out sa’kin [nung pareho kami] sa Gilas,” the 25-year-old said. “I think all of us here will welcome that, especially the guys who haven’t seen him play or been with him.
“He’ll be a welcome addition.”
