Vanie Gandler is still hungry for more following an impressive rookie season with Cignal that saw her help the HD Spikers clinch back-to-back bronze finishes to cap off the 2023 Premier Volleyball League season.
Gandler came on board in the Invitational Conference, showing off her bright potential playing behind Rachel Daquis and Ces Molina.
She eventually got her break in the season-ending Second All-Filipino Conference.
With Daquis out of the lineup due to a coaches’ camp in the United States, Gandler assumed the starting role for Cignal and has been nothing but impressive for the team throughout the conference.
“It’s been great. I’m so happy to be here. I always tell them. I’m so grateful to be here, that’s all I can say,” said Gandler after the HD Spikers’ Game 2 win over Chery Tiggo in the battle for bronze last Saturday.
“I have no words. No words.”
The former Ateneo standout delivered the goods in the third-place series, unloading 21 points on 20 attacks and a block in Game 1.
She then followed it up with a 22-point performance in Game 2 to help her side clinch their fourth bronze medal in the PVL.
With her rookie season officially done, Gandler said that she’s looking forward to building more connections with the HD Spikers as they look to finally get over the hump and snag gold in the 2024 PVL season.
“For me, individually, I still have so much to learn.
“It’s my first year here and I’m barely halfway through what I can do and for the team naman, of course more gelling, like I’m new to the team, ate Jovelyn just came back so it’s stuff we need to work on. Communication,” she closed.
