Valdez dedicates 3rd MVP tiara to volleyball community

Prior to Game Two of the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Finals, the individual awardees for the regular season were honored and as expected, Queen Eagle Alyssa Valdez was crowned as the Most Valuable Player for the third straight year.

Valdez, who has helped lead the Lady Eagles to five straight finals appearances starting the 73rd Season of the UAAP, led the league in service aces and points while being the third best spiker.

In her last awarding ceremony for the league, Valdez was emotional after adding another trophy to her cabinet. “Ang MVP award na ito is not for me alone,” she said. “Kung wala ang teammates ko and coaches, wala po ako dito. Sila din MVP.”

The Queen Eagle then furthered in calling for unity in the volleyball fandom in saying, “Mapa-blue man, mapa-green, red, maroon, alam naming lahat ng na na-appreciate niyo kami as volleyball players and teams.”

“So it’s not for me alone – it’s for everyone. For the whole volleyball community. This is for us!”

UP’s Isa Molde was crowned as this season’s Rookie of the Year. In the individual category awards, National U’s Jaja Santiago was the best attacker for this season while La Salle’s Majoy Baron was the best blocker. Lady Spiker libero Dawn Macandili brought home two trophies in winning the best receiver and best digger awards.

Game Two between the De La Salle University Lady Spikers and the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles is set to be played as of publishing.
