V-League: Ybanez-De Vega connive anew vs Ateneo, tows UST to Finals

University of Sto. Tomas used a huge fourth set to close out the Ateneo de Manila University in four sets, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-16, and enter the 2022 V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge finals at the Paco Arena, Thursday night.

Josh Ybanez showcased his all-around skills with 24 points on 19 attacks, four service aces, and one block on top of 16 excellent receptions and five excellent digs to help the Tiger Spikers set up a date with National University in the finale.

Gboy De Vega added 19 points while Edlyn Paul Colinares and Jay Rack Dela Noche contributed 10 points each in the victory.

“Yung concern was the first set, they were over eager and anxious, although talo kami sa akin I just have to remind them to just keep their focus sa ginagawa nila kasi almost 20 points came from our errors. Nung second, third, fourth sets they just played as usual,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon.

Ken Batas led the Blue Eagles with 15 points while Abai Llenos had 14 markers and 11 receptions.

UST will go up against the undefeated NU in the championship round on Sunday at 10:00 AM while Ateneo will face Perpetual in the bronze knockout match later that day at 5:00 PM.
