V-League: Yambao steers UST to second seed, past CSB

University of Sto. Tomas formally secured the second seed in Pool A after beating College of St. Benilde, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18, in the 2022 V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge, Sunday at the Paco Arena.

Dux Yambao put on an impressive outing for the Tiger Spikers, finishing with 16 excellent sets to go along with two points to help his side finish the group stage with a 4-1 win-loss standing.

Rey Miguel De Vega, Alche Gupiteo, and Rainier Flor all scored 10 points for UST.

“Nag-iimprove pa sila, medyo yung ginagawa namin sa training talagang nalabas nila sa laro,” said UST assistant coach Benjamin Mape, who stepped in for head coach Odjie Mamon.

“Kailangan mabuo pa yung team namin as a whole tapos yung iba pa naming players na nasa bench dapat ma-expose pa namin kasi kailangan ma-buildup namin yung team before UAAP kasi ito yung preparation namin e,” he added.

Benilde was led by Arnel Christian Aguilar with 10 points to go along with nine excellent receptions and three excellent digs.

The Blazers finished pool play at the bottom with a 1-4 card.
