V-League: Jamili shines as FEU notches first win at San Sebastian’s expense

Far Eastern University bounced back from a slow start to clinch its first win by taking down San Sebastian College-Recoletos in four sets, 15-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-16, in the 2022 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge, Friday at the Paco Arena.

Chenie Tagaod top scored for the Lady Tamaraws, who secured the third seed in Pool A with a 1-2 card, with 15 points on 12 attacks and three blocks while Barbie Jamili and Miltzi Panangin each had 11 points.

“Preparing kami for para makapag-recover. So yun muna yung tinarget namin, not actually para ma-win this game, para ma-win din yung health muna kasi yun talaga yung naging problem namin for the past nine days,” said FEU head coach Tina Salak.

“So coming into this game, we made sure na healthy pero parang hindi pa rin naman. Pero at least, commend ko yung mga bata for pushing their best talaga to perform despite and inspite doon sa nararamdaman nila,” she added.

The Lady Tamaraws looked sluggish in the opening set loss but put on a show in the next two by dominating the Lady Stags to take a 2-1 advantage.

FEU then started the fourth set with a 9-2 blast and never looked back from there, leading by as much as 10 points, 17-7, after a Tagaod hit. Jamili finished it off by scoring three of the Lady Tamaraws’ last four points.

Kristine Dionisio paced the 0-3 San Sebastian with 14 points while Kath Santos and Tina Marasigan added nine and eight points, respectively.

FEU will face the Pool B second seed in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5:00 PM while San Sebastian will go up against the top-ranked team from Pool B on Wednesday also at 3:00 PM.
