Hard fighting University of the Visayas Lancers almost pulled off an upset against De La Salle University in their debut game in the PCCL Elite Eight where they only slipped the game in the final canto.
Just a day after, the Lancers rewarded their Head Coach Gary Cortez his first victory in the national ranks in just his second game. His squad rallied back from a 16-point deficit to turn around an impending win for the UAAP Season 77 defending champions, National University Bulldogs.
“I’m just thankful to my players for following our system. They recovered well from a loss,” said Cortez.
In their first game against the Archers, the Lancers gave a great fight by closing out the count at the end of the third as they manage to cut La Salle’s lead to one. However, they fell short in the fourth as the Archers’ bench mob took over. In their game against NU, they finally pulled one off and Coach Gary could not be any happier.
“As a rookie coach, this is just so overwhelming as this is just my second game for a National league,” quipped Cortez in mixture of Cebuano and English. “This will just be an added motivation for us.”
