Despite lacking height, University of Sto. Tomas rookie Angeline Poyos is confident that the Golden Tigresses can collectively fill the Eya Laure-sized hole in their wing spiker rotation.
Poyos, who stands at 5-foot-8, along with the 5-foot-7 Regina Jurado and the 5-foot-9 Jonna Perdido gave the UST community a glimpse of life after Laure after joining hands in their stunning 25-19, 25-23, 25-22 sweep of National University in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball, Sunday.
The 20-year-old rookie fired a team-high 16 points on 13 attacks and three blocks while Jurado and Perdido scored 12 markers each in the victory over the perennial powerhouse.
Despite her stellar debut game, Poyos is far from satisfied with her performance as she believes that she still has a lot more to offer for the team.
With this, the UST High School product is already looking forward to their next game against University of the East on Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Yun nga, first UAAP game, andun pa rin ‘yung pressure, nangangapa.
