Defending champion University of Santo Tomas and Finals rival National University keep their respective unblemished records during the penultimate day of the first round of UAAP Season 82 Men’s Table Tennis Tournament, Wednesday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
Alvin Sevilla pulled through in both of his matches in the day, before the duo of Mcleen Dizon and Prince Garcia completed the 3-0 sweeps for the Tiger Paddlers against both University of the East and Ateneo.
The second-year Sevilla stopped UE’s Sandro Cortez in that tight third set to win the second singles match. He then took down Ateneo’s Mark Parman with a relatively easier three-setter in the afternoon.
NU likewise stayed unbeaten in six ties with victories over Ateneo and La Salle.
Romualdo Ramiro closed out the tie against Blue Eagle Jose De Asis in three sets after a 13-11 opening frame in the morning. The tandem of Harold Celeridad and Franz Mogol then took down La Salle’s Christian Crisostomo and Daniel Ocon in four later that afternoon.
Adamson took wins in both of their assignments despite needing to clinch the deciding singles matches. The Soaring Falcons outlasted University of the Philippines and UE to end the day at an even 3-3 record which is tied with La Salle and UE.
The Green Paddlers and the Fighting Maroons each bagged a victory against Far Eastern University in similar 3-2 score lines to close out the day.
