Following the loss Ateneo suffered against rival La Salle, UST also pulled out its own domination of the UP opposition during the second and final women’s match of the first day of the UAAP Season 77 Tennis Championship.
Suffering at the hands of UST’s powerful players, only one UP tennister, Nicole Eugenio, left the courts with a victory as she pulled off a 6-3, 6-3 victory against UST’s Mary Gonzales in the first match.
Reeling from the defeat, the motivated tennisters of UST denied their UP counterparts from gaining more ground as they effectively stopped the bleeding. Leading the recovery was singles player Kendies Malinis who successfully shut down UP’s CJ Valdez. UP’s losses continued at the hands of Ingrid Gonzales who pulled off a stunning 6-0, 6-0 finish against UP’s Monica Cortez.
The recovery continued in the double matches as the duo of April Santos and Lenelyn Milo beat the duo of UP’s Lim and Ramos in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 match and UST’s Gitalan and Caorte defeated UP’s Peña and Bañez 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
