After a disappointing exit last season, the UST Tigresses romped the hapless Lady Warriors in straight sets, 25-11, 25-12, 25-14 at the MoA arena.
The Tigresses were just incredibly sharp throughout the game, not letting UE make any significant runs while controlling each set from the get go. UST’s spikers feasted on UE’s defense, notching a 32 to 15 spike advantage. UE just couldn’t find anything they could keep going to for points as UST minimized their errors to 12 while UE gave up 29 error points.
UST captain Pam Lastimosa led the cause for her team, leading them in scoring with 12 points, 9 coming off spikes and 2 off service aces. Prized rookie Ennajie Laure made a resounding start to her UAAP career, scoring 8 points, 6 coming in the first set. With UST breezing through the match, Coach Mamon managed to field several rookies in the third set to clinch the win, including Beach Volleyball MVP, Cherry Rondina and Mary “Boom” Pacres.
UE open spiker, Angelica Dacaymat was the lone bright spot for the Lady Warriors as she managed to poke holes in UST’s otherwise air-tight net defense for 6 points.
The scores:
UST- Lastimosa 12, Laure 8, Meneses 7, De Leon 5, Tunay 4, Cortez 4, Pacres 3, Rondina 3
UE- Dacaymat 6, Adorador 5, Baliton 4, Alcayde 3, Ponon 2, Dawis 2, Ramos 2, Abil 1
