Denied their first 2nd round victory at the hands of the DLSU Green Tennisters, the UP Fighting Maroons were hopeful that their match against the UST Golden Tennisters would bring their much awaited first win. Things, however, did not go as planned as the UST Golden Tennisters were the ones who came out on top with a 4-1 victory.
The Golden Tennisters were quick to take the courts and deliver their much deserved win. Launching the assault was USTâs singles player Hakeem Cariga who after a tense 6-1, 3-6 match defeated Jorou Librodo who retiring during the last set which ended 5-3 in favor of UST. His success was followed by fellow singles player Francis Lanzado who also defeated his assignment, Angelo Esguerra, after a close 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 match. UST suffered their only hiccup at the hands of Bernan Lou Bering who fell to UPâs Joshua Miranda 0-6, 1-6.
UPâs victory in the third singles match was its only one as USTâs doubles teams were also more than ready to notch their own victories. Taking on the first doubles match of tie for UP was the duo of Reynaldo Mariano and Franklin Encarnacion who despite giving their best, ultimately failed to stop USTâs Joel Cabusas and Bernlo Bering who proved victorious, 7-5, 6-4.
The final doubles match between UPâs Miguel Belda and Enrique Ferrer also ended with a loss as they to failed to stop the attacks launched by USTâs Francis Patino and Al Francis Potutan. Their match ended 6-2, 6-4 with the Golden Tennisters winning the match and ultimately the tie.
